Sports Events are cancelled due to Coronavirus


The recent coronavirus outbreak has impacted heavily on all major sporting events. The English Premier League, English Football League, UEFA Champions League has canceled until the second week of April.

Football 

  • After the news broke down that Arsenal's Manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea Player Callum Hudson-Odoi have tested positive for COVID-19, the Premier league committee has suspended until EPL & EFL until April 4.
  • The games of the UEFA Champions League & The UEFA Europa League have also postponed. 
  • In Ireland, The Football Association of Ireland has also postponed all games until March 29. 
  • The England Football Association also postpones two Friendly International Games at Wembley stadium. 
  • The Bundesliga is also suspended until April 3, and German Football Association will be reviewing the situation on March 30.
  • In the USA, the Major League Soccer is suspended for 30 days with immediate effect.
  • There is also a speculation on Euro 2020, UEFA will be conducting a meeting later this week to dicuss whether to go ahead as scheduled.
  • Many football club players are going into self-isolation after they have reported symptoms consisting of coronavirus.


Rugby Union

  • England's Premiership Rugby, Gallagher Premiership games are suspended for five weeks.
  • The annual rugby union competition PRO14 was suspended indefinitely. 
  • In New Zealand, The Super Rugby Season is suspended due to quarantine.
  •  In Australia, Rugby Australia has closed Sydney Headquarters after a couple of members were found to be suspicious of COVID-19.
  • In South Africa, All games of Rugby are suspended until April 25.


Cricket

  • The Surrey have canceled their training camp in Dubai, amid concern over player's health & safety.
  • The seasonal start of the Indian Premier League has postponed to April 15. 
  • The test series of England vs. Sri Lanka has been postponed. 
  • South Africa cricket has canceled all cricketing action for the next 60 days.
  • Ireland's tour of Zimbabwe in April has been postponed.

Tennis

  • BNP Paribas Open in which Rafael Nadal & Novak Djokovic were set to complete was called off. 
  • ATP has suspended all tennis events for six weeks. 
  • The Miami Open tennis tournament has been canceled due to a ban on mass gathering on Mass Gathering in Miami.

Boxing,  MMA & Wrestling 

  • The UFC has postponed all of its events due to this COVID-19 outbreak.
  • In Japan, Boxing events that are scheduled for March have been canceled. 
  • The Judo Federation has canceled all of its Olympic qualification events until further notice.
  • WWE Wrestlemania 36 will be held closed doors due to Corona Virus.
