In recent years there have been many big sports events, and all of them were made possible by the games volunteers and their support. Volunteering at the sports event is very special because the big event required vast numbers of volunteers. It adds up the entire volunteering experience at the event.

The first event we can talk about is the Rio 2016 Olympics, which involved a massive cohort of volunteers i.e 80,000 in total. All of them were engaged in various departments like Hospitality, Communication, Transport, Administration, Medical & IT n more. Volunteers at every event made it very well organized and unique. The Olympics committee appreciated the efforts every volunteer has put in. While the majority of volunteers were Brazilians, some hundreds have been selected across the world from the UK, India, Croatia & Japan, etc.

Volunteer Insight

A 27-year-old nurse from Croatia was selected in a Medial Department of Volunteers. She said, "The Olympics is the huge event and everyone wants to take part, I never thought I could be volunteering as a medical staff in the football match at Maracana Stadium, a dream come true indeed." 
?I saw that its a once in a lifetime opportunity and I was very excited about the opportunity which they have given.?
"I applied for a volunteer on the Rio Olympics website and in November 2014. After that, I went through an online interview in September 2015 and got selected in the process. On July 30th, 2016. I was en route to Brazil from London. 12 hours flight after I made it to Olympics city Rio de Janeiro with other volunteers."
"I was assigned to be at football games at Maracana Stadium along with Opening & Closing ceremony" To experience the opening and closing ceremony and being there was an unforgettable experience."

Not only the Olympians and players but others were also massive fans of the way the brazil had volunteered. the President at the time, Dilma Rousseff stated: "To see thousands of people giving up their time to support Rio 2016 has been truly inspiring."

2018 Football World Cup     

Russia hosted the 2018 football world cup, and it was heavily successful because of the stars of the game and the numbers of the volunteers who gave up their time to make sure the entire world cup tournaments run smooth and organized. 2018 Football world cup had around 17k volunteers associated with different roles such as Media Assistant, Players Assistance, Parking Assistance, etc.

Why Volunteer

There are many different reasons why you should volunteer in big sports events. Volunteering in a big sports event is a lifetime opportunity and the most rewarding ways to contribute to your community.
